VICTORY AT LAST! INEC DECLARES PDP WINNER OF ELECTION AS SARAKI BLASTS APC

The People’s Democratic party PDP have recorded a big victory as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC umpire has announced that the winner in Bauchi State in the election that was held in the state which have been subject of serious controversy, while Senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara blast the All Progressive Congress APC.

Recall that the result of the election in the place was not announced following the declaration of the election as inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for some reasons. According to Daily Trust, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Tafawa Balewa constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly which was one of the major area of controversy in the state election.

Also, the result of the governorship election in the state was not declared because of the initial decision of INEC which has kept most people in suspense. Meanwhile, the result announced by INEC on the state assembly election in Tafawa Balewa constituency showed that the PDP won with 29,933 votes against the APC that scored 25,210 votes. The PDP emerged winner in the election after the resumption of the collation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The results for the governorship election was however halted because of Court Order given by an Abuja High Court following a suit filed by Governor Mohammed Abubakar and the All Progressive Congress, APC. It would be recalled that the Tafawa Balewa local government results were rejected by the state INEC Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Kyari after an alleged reported cases of violence and intimidation at the local government collation Center.

A committee sent by INEC to Bauchi headed by Festus Okoye however recommended that the results from Tafawa Balewa be re-collated and declared. The commission resumed the collation for the State House of Assembly but halted the collation of result for the governorship election in obedience to the court order. In another development, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has described the loss of the People Democratic Party at the inconclusive 2019 elections as “pure evil” which will be short-lived, as all perpetrators will not go unpunished.

Dogara spoke with Newsmen at the emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party which was held at in Abuja on Wednesday, March 20. He said: “What has happened at the elections is pure evil. Our consolation as members of this party is that evil does not last and no evil doer has ever escaped punishment.

If they do what others have done before, they will see what those who did evil saw. Definitely they cannot escape from it. It is a law of nature and it is in the scripture of God, that whatever you sow, you shall reap. “I want to use this opportunity to remind INEC that we should escape the trap of always getting Nigeria to be slanted as bad when they are looking for example of a bad precedent.”

Recall that the Senate President, Bukola Sraki also said that the victory of the APC will be short-lived after condemning the nature of elections conducted by the ruling party. He also re-echoed the comments made by Senator Bukola Saraki, as he believed that inconclusive election has no place in other countries and as only happened in Nigeria, noting that the INEC Chairman should have know better as a ”first class” Professor.

He added: “Elections are done all over the world. Elections are conducted in Africa and at no time have we heard of this inconclusive elections in other jurisdictions. “It is very unfortunate if INEC which is led by a first class Professor set this very dangerous and unacceptable precedent in our political history. “For those who believe in power for the sake of power, not because they want to empower people, not because they want to better the lives of our people; there is also lessons they can learn from history. History is replete with examples of all those who pursue power, for the sake of power. Their lives have always ended in seminal tragedy and that await anyone who seek power for the sake of power. We have seen that display in Nigeria too,” he concluded.

All eyes are on the electoral umpire to take the final decision on what will happen in the governorship election in the state. Whether a winner will emerge after it might have gone ahead with the collation or whether there will be a supplementary election to produce a winner. Meanwhile, it has to finalise the legal battle against its decision to continue the collation of the results.
